Help required with my 1989 VW golf Cipper. The car was running fine until i stored it in my garage for two months. I took it out yesterday and tried starting it without any joy. The electrical side is fine (spark plugs sparking/timing correct etc) but there seems to be a fuel delivery problem. Fuel doesnt seen to be getting to the carb. Ive taken of the mechanical fuel pump and it seems to operate correctly, but when attached to the engine it doesnt pump the fuel to the carb.
Is the fuel pump defective?
the inline fuel filter was replaced several months ago, so dont think it can be that.
Can anyone suggest any help?

Is the fuel OK? Petrol can 'go off'. Plus you could have a build up of sediment somewhere in the system. I would consider draining the tank and putting some fresh fuel in, blowing out the fuel lines with air while I was busy.

hi mate i used to have a mk 1 golf cab the common thing is the fuel filter if you take it off and blow the petrol back in to the tank the petrol will go back into the tank then try starting again ;)

Hey Guys/Gals,
Finaly sorted the fuel starvation problem. It was a pin hole in the fuel pipe from the in line filter to the fuel pump. Thanks for all the help :beerchug: :beerchug: :beerchug:
