central locking probs!

Hi only new to this place and hoping someone may help! Just bought a mark iv golf and im havin probs with the remote central locking.The original key fob will open the central locking but wont lock it.I also got a new key and fob with the car in which i changed the batteries-this wont open or lock the doors.Does anyone know how to program the key???????

I just did this on my Passat - not sure if it's the same on the Golf but worth a try?

1. Assuming the battery in the remote is okay, press lock or unlock on the remote for about 1 second. (It doesn't matter whether it works or not).

2. Then unlock the driver's door with the key.

The unit should now be resynchronised - if not it may be a different fault.
