Hi all,

I joined the site last night to try and swot up on S3 buying guides or advice but could find a single resource.

I hope you won't mind providing me with a sanity check on a few cars I'll be viewing later this week.

I've got a budget of £5k that I know wont net me a low mileage example however I'm hoping it will provide that VAG reliability I've enjoyed with my Mk3 Golf.

My pricng range is between £4k and £5k tops and there are a few 100k+ exmaples to be had. I'm pretty mature when going to see cars looking for signs of abuse, wear & tear, worn turbos, suspension etc but I've never owned an Audi before so its really over to you experienced lot for a bit of buyers beware advice.

I'm a sceptical person by nature so I'll be looking for signs of "if its too good to be true" scenarios.

I've got two cars in mind so far and they're at oposite ends of my budget.

Does anyone know of this car?

Potential issues:

Cam belt was changed at circa 80k. Is this normal?
Trader has no idea if the turbo has been replaced. How long should they last?
Its got 19" wheels. Would that not put the suspension / bushes under strain?
The trader says its the BAM engine however I was not aware that the BAM was available in 2001.
Anything else I should ask?
The only nagging one is why so cheap? Whats wrong with it? I've already asked too!

Its a CAT D. Again does nayone know of this car

I'm not too concerned of it being a CAT D so long as its been repaired properly and the drive train has not been damaged.
After speaking to the trader I've no concerns though I'd try and get more money off as its a CAT D.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated and who knows in a week I'll be a bonafied S3 owner.

Cheers alot!
