Hello Peeps
I am needing to change the hoops on my 2002 A6 Avant 2.0 soon, at the mo she has Goodyear Eagle 205.55r16's, what would be your recomendations for new rubber?
I do not need the latest all singing, super dooper, mega expensive, R8 type stuff, she is only a 2.0 after all.:o
any advice willingly & gratefully recieved
regards

It depends what you want the tyres to do. grip (wet, dry, snow), comfort, long life,
noise, economy, good steering, etc.

I knew that someone would get all tech on me ;)
thanks for the reply Shabazmo, i live in Guernsey, Channel Islands and the speed limit is a max 35mph, i use the car in the UK or Germany about 1 or 2 weeks in a year, my main want is strong sidewalls, as over here you are always mounting the pavements or rubbing along them as the roads can be very narrow, and all lorry and bus drivers think that they have a god given right to take up all the road, and if you do not mount the kerb or throw your car into the nearest hedge, you are roadkill, and therefore a legitimate target:D
Good grip and wear, wet and dry, would be my main must haves.

Thats easy then. Any tyre with sidewall protection or rim protection. I have used Bridgestone RE050. this is a sporty tyre, but will satisy the strong side wall and will protect your wheels. Generally this tyre also makes the sidewall vertically flatish instead of curved, which improves steering but poor on comfort.

I only really buy budget ones myself these days but I did buy a full set of Pirelli P6000's before in that size and they were atrocious in the wet, so that's one I'd knock off the list.

These budget tyres that are on the market nowadays, just how good /safe are they.
are they made by the main manufactures and given a differant name so they can enter a cheaper market, but protect their prime brand name? basically the same tyres but with less sexy tread patterns and a different name? thanks for the reply's gents.http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w292/TANKEDDA/DSCF0654.jpg

I've done a fair bit of procrastinating over tyres this week - settled for Uniroyal Rainsport2 (made by continental) as they seem to get good reviews and are at a good price. From the budget section, Falken 452's seemed to be liked.

The Bridgestone RE050As might not be available in 16". Not only that, but they do stiffen up the ride quite a lot, yes you have a nice chunky sidewall, but it really does make the ride firmer.

The Goodyear Eagle F1s you have now are probably rather good, my son has them in 205/55/16s on his SEAT Ibiza and as for rim protection, they're better than the Bridgestone Turanzas he has on the front.

I would recommend the Dunlop Sportmaxx to you but I don't think they're made in 16" either.

Just stick another set of Eagles on it. ;)

Hangfire, have any of you heard of or fitted Capital tyres to your cars? if so, what is your opinion of them, and who makes them?

Hi guys. Recently fitted 'Falken 912' tyres to my A6 1.9-130bhp TDi. Just trying to reduce the ever increasing cost of motoring these days. I paid £132 for 2, - 235x45xR17s. Seem good so far. Another brand that I'm using on my Honda CRV are 'Accelera'. These have proven to be a real good budget tyre, check out the reviews on the Alfa owners club forum.

I fitted four Falken 912's to my 2.5Tdi quattro a few months ago and they are all good so far - I would recommend them.
