Hi - I have a 1998 Mk 4 VW Golf 1.9TDi SE. This morning I could not unlock the doors with the key fob remote, so I used the key in lock and the alarm went off. I disabled the alarm by locking the door twice with the key - and then the key fob remote started working again. Is his a one-off problem or symptomatic of some underlying problem?

Hi,
Have had this issue when battery in remote gets low, cheapest and most simple repair to begin with.
In a majority of cases it's a faulty remote.
The remotes can get out of sync if pressed multiple times not in range of the car e.g kids playing with your keys?
always a possibility that the convenience ECU has a sporadic fault but that will be very hard to diagnose if it's now working ok.
If it happens again get the ignition on immediately after unlocking the door and this should prevent the alarm from sounding.
