I would like to get a set of 17" alloys for the winter as I was getting no where in the Scottish snow last year!!
Has anyone any ideas on where to buy. Also the dia and offset of the B8 model?

I was looking at this too for the same reasons as Monty having being stranded for the first time ever last year just 3 miles from my home.
I read in another forum that 17" is the minimum size we can put on but when I searched mytyres.co.uk for M&S tyres on steel rims they offered 16" rims for an Audi A4 B8.
For 225/55 16" they list:-
7½ x 16 5 x 112.00 x 66.50 ET: 45.00 5-4-hole steel wheel (9707)
Would these even cover the brakes?

Info from the German TÜV Centre! That was printed of for my Audi B8 A4 Avant.
Reccomended M+S (winter) Combos are:-
225/55R 16 95H (wheels 7X16 ET46).
225/50R 17 94H (wheels 7X17 ET46).
245/40R 18 93H (wheels 8X18 ET47).
If your tyres are coming up for renewal might be more prudent to purchase "All Season Tyres" depending on your mileage and type of driving?
They also quote a summer combo 205/60R 16 92W (7X16 ET39) so your brakes are not going to foul

In the Audi brouchure (Germanland) they do quote a steel wheel 7X16 with 205/60 R 16 tyres, but for some unknown reason the state "only for cars with motors up to 118KW"..
Another thing to bear in mind if you like to drive in snow is "Can You Fit Snow chains" a lot of the large Diameter wheels ie. 18 inch up are not certified to be used with chains because of technical reasons. Snow-Socks are Supposed to be good as a temprorary measure though.

I'm driving to the Alps this coming Winter and want to fit steel rims and Winter tyres too. As I understand it, you have to carry chains in the Alps (French), so socks don't cut it. I have also heard that other European countries are forcing Winter tyres as law (like Canada etc).
The other issue is the ET of the wheel you're replacing, right?
The 19" double arm 7 spoke have what ET? Not that the chains I already have would fit the 19's, I'd never put them on nice alloys anyway... Plus there's the crud that's put on the UK roads for the Winter... Steel wheels from November to March seems like a fine idea to me.
