As above.

I've looked around for this online for hours and can't find much!

Basically, I have a 1.4 16v Mk4 2001 with a screwed gearbox (AGAIN!), and i also have a written off Mk4 (1998) 1.9 TDi 110 (I think!).

If i were to make the Y reg 1.4 16v, into a diesel, what exactly is involved?

Obviously i'd need to swap the basics like Brakes (and wheels to fit) over,

Engine and box, Driveshafts, Suspension Struts, Wiring Loom and ECU, but what exactly is involved?

I have a complete donor car so thats not a problem, i just don't want to start something and then end up with 2 useless cars!

Cheers
David

it is poss but it would devalue the car IMHO, but to do it you would need to remove everthing from the tdi and put it into the 1.4, its an awful lot of work, and even then im sure there would be plenty of head aches along the way with bolt holes in the wrong place that sort of thing, if you have plenty of time and are going to keep the tdi for a while then have a go at it and start a thread on your progess, one thing to bear in mind tho and that is after you have do it the car would have to be tested by the ministry because you have changed the tax band of the car, but like i said id change everything off the tdi so then you know everything will work as it should

hope this helps bud

Yeah that helps loads mate..

Basically, its helped me decide that i really can't be *****!

I'll leave the thing on ebay and see what happens, i'm pretty confident its worth reasonable money as it is, just not sure how reasonable!

1.8t conversion on a 1.4 would be easier but that said it is still ALOT of work and it could go horribly wrong.

Dont build what you can buy thats my philosophy!
