hi guys!
Just joined the forum to get abit of info on my golf from people in the know! as i dont know much! lol..
Anyway, i bought a 2004 mk5 golf 2.0 gt tdi around 1 month ago. Its got 104k on the clock and im worried it shouldnt sound like it does! I know diesels are quite noisy anyway and a few friends said its probably fine.. but was just wandering if there was anything i could do to get it running abit quieter as its really quite noisy when running and ticking over. Or are they all noisy and its nothing to worry about?
any help much appreciated!

I'm definitely no expert but my 1.9 TDI is pretty noisy at tickover. Most diesels are a bit clattery.
You might need to describe the noise in a bit more detail then some of the techie guys who post on here might be able to help.

cheers for the quick reply matey - its just loud in general, as in the engine. a little croaky for my liking! also struggles to start quite abit. Just hoping i havent bought a nail really as i know jack about cars.. lol had a mk4 golf tdi last time and to be fair sounds around as loud as that one did.. i just thought the mk5 2.0 model would be abit quieter than that!

I find mine starts nicely when cold, but ticks over a couple of times before catching when warm.
It can be fairly loud, especially compared to a petrol, but it more than makes up for it with that lovely great big wedge of torque!

Hey,
I find mine souning like a tractor every once in a while but i would say is pop down to you vw garage and jump in a newish mk5 and see what you think. i keep hearing noises in mine that scare the S**t out of me but thats because i used to have french cars.

Hi
every diesel I have ever owned but one has started as soon as I've turned the key. I would not be happy if my vw didn't start hot or cold on the button.

HI Funky dee,
If you are have promblem starting check when the fuel filter was last changed as this may be slightly clocked. The filter should be changed every 40,000 miles
