i have a 2000 w reg audi a3, i was in 4th gear driving about 40mph, all of a sudden without my feet on the pedels it revs up to 4000 revs and keeps a continuous speed of 40mph, but does no inscrease. both pedels were not stuck, and when i tried to put my foot on the accelerator it judders and slows downa little?? it is quite intermitant, so it doesnt always do it.

does anyone have any idea on what it would be??

I'm having exactly the same issue in my 1999 A3 1.6 petrol. It's happened 4 times now in about as many months. Did you find out any more information about this?

You MUST start with a fault code read. Your engine is probably an AKL and the most likely reason is a throttle body problem. In most cases this will respond to being cleaned and reset but the AKL engine requires an additional step known as “clearing learnt values” to be carried out or the reset of the throttle body will not work.

Thanks, I'll pass that onto the mechanic.

i got some fault codes on mine which are clear now but it was the temperature sensor.
genuine part number 059919501a only about £20
there are plenty on ebay

Finally got the car into the mechanic and just let him run a diagnostics on the car to see what he could find. First thing he found was:

"020A Temperature sensor coolant open circuit/positive short"

Which I believe is part number 059919501a. The mechanic replaced it today along with the induction pipe from mass air flow (MAF) sensor.

I was having trouble starting the car after turning it off for a few minutes (e.g. popping into the shop etc). Now it starts without any problem at all. It was also very difficult to start after it would rev up by itself, hopefully everything is fixed.

The sensor cost me £22, induction pipe was £34, Labour was £45.

Will keep this thread up to date with results in about a month.

00522 Coolant temperature sender -G62- Open/short circuit to positive

not many people will recognise the 020A Hex code he has given you.

Sorry, I don't know the difference between these :) Are they just different numbers reported by different diagnostic units?

Hex codes are not the usual protocol, VAG or P codes are what most people will recognise.

Just to update this thread, the G62 sensor replacement fixed all problems!
