Knowing I what know about powdercoating (my employer does a lot of it) it is very resilient and offers excellent protection to the elements. The down side is that metallics always tend to be a little 'flatter' than wetspray.
If you ever watch Wheeler Dealers on Sky, they seem to show something different every time. From simple DIY jobs to mobile guys who clamp the tyre back, do a bit of prep and wetspray. They did an acid etch and powdercoat job on some BMW wheels recently and they looked the biz.

I have paid as little as £30 pound a wheel for wetspray and that included a prep of beadblasting. Some guy at work got his done for £70 and they looked great but are now peeling! My guess is they werent prep'd properly.
