Hey guys..

I've got here a golf thats been hit and unrecorded.

I'm toying with the idea of repairing it, though there's one small issue.

I'm trying to find out what particular engine it has, as the logbook is a waste of time.

The car was Imported and declared new in 1998, according to the v5.
Basically, I have the registration, Chassis number and Engine number, and was wondering how on earth i'm to find out what exactly it is..?

Its:

S61 UWX (Non Transferrable as imported?)
WVWZZZ1JZXP229147
PEA31088 (Engine number according to v5).

I've struggled to get anything from VW, assumable because its imported, and most insurance sites don't bring it up..

Any further ideas?

Cheers

This is the engine bay if it helps:

Pretty sure that narrows it down to a 90 or 110, and its Definately Turbo'd.

Also had an intercooler, so not sure if that varied between the 2 models...

The engine number is not correctly recorded on the V5, which is something I see a lot on imports and my chassis number lookup system is not working at the moment so I can’t check. The engine code is on the sticker on the cam belt cover and it will be AGR, ALH, AHF or ASV and that looks like an AGR EGR valve.

Ah right, that makes a lot of sense!

Would the engine number determine whether its a 90 / 100 / 110 etc?
Or would the chassis number?
Apparently VW couldn't find it from the chassis number according to the previous owner...

The engine number determines the horsepower, the chassis number can be used to work it out but my checking system has been cut off.

Ah amazing, is there somewhere I can type the info in online or download to work this out?

No, only the dealer can do this with your VIN number. Your registration document is wrong so any online resource will only provide the same incorrect info.

Ah right, that's crazy so as long as I get the correct engine niumber I will know...

Will try get this tomorrow and see what I'm working with I think!
