Help!!!!!

Fellas, I am at my wits end with my 1996 A4 2.6 quattro. I have the usual problem of really bad idle, ticks over at around 1400 rpm, then surges when warm between 1200 and 1600, even racing up the rev range when clutch is depressed.
I have replaced throttle body and potentiometer, idle control valve, temperature sender and cleaned the whole thing several times. When connecting vag com for a reset, I am not given the option to do so?......and am told that this earlier model relearns when ignition is switched on?
No faults are shown on Vag com but if anyone is local I would love a second opinion! :zx11:

Many Thanks to Lemonslap!!!.......at last it has been pinpointed as to where the fault lies!!
All I have to do now is save the money for a refurb on the ECU.
