Just bought a Golf 2.0 TDI 140 on a 55 plate with 54000 miles, full VW Service from BCA Auctions
Went over the car as much as i could, few marks which should poilish out , couple i need to get sorted.
My question is would you change the Timing Belt ? It was last serviced at 49000 miles last year, so I guess this wouldnt be replaced. I posted another thread on here asking when it should be done. 75000 miles or 4 yrs was the answer.............
so im thinking of getting it done. Is there anything else that i need to look for which are common issues with them ?
was also thinking of getting it remappped.
Can it be done ? whats the max BHP it can be taken to ? 170 ?
has anybody had it done ? does it improve fuel efficency ?
can anybody recommend somebody decent in the N West , i.e around the Merseyside area ?
cheers

hi mate you dont really need to change the timing belt but it wont do any harm to do it now, then you know where you are so to speak
as for a remap i havent done mine but there are loads of threads about it on here and from what ive seen you can get great rewards from it, 170 maybe not but close to that is do able i would of thought

Hi there,
Firstly, thanks for taking the time to post in the right section, it'll be much appreciated by our regulars!
Second, good choice on the car!!!
Third, I had my cam belt done this year, and the car is currently 6 years old, just hit 75,000 miles.
50k seems early, but then it is 5 years old, so it's probably as much a peace of mind thing for you as anything. What sort of mileage do you do?
Fourth, re-mapping can definitely done. I'm pretty sure you can get to 180 - 190 BHP without too much trouble. I've chosen not too, basically because I'm a chicken and don't want to alter the car too much, but lots of people have had the 2.0 TDi unit remapped and swear by it.
As for the geography I'm not too sure, but I'm sure someone will drop by shortly to let you know.
Happy motoring! :D

thanks guys, much appreciated.
Picked it up yday, couple of marks on it but overall pleased.
The brake light is out on the back , I gather the whole lens needs to come out to replace the bulb ?
also looking at changing the drivers door grab handle which houses the electric switches as its worn , are they easy to do ?

I recently bought a 140 TDi too, I changed the cambelt and waterpump even though it`s only 4 years old and there`s 43k on the clock. I figured as I`m keeping the car a few years it`d be worth it.
As for remapping, well that`s something I`d be interested in doing too, I haven`t made my mind up as yet who to use as there seems so much choice out there. I`m not looking for big numbers, just a nice drivable motor.

the recommendation for cam belt change is 60K Mils or 4 year whichever comes first, regardless of annual mileage , also recommended is to change the water pump as it driven by the cam belt and if it ceases it could cause problems :)
