My Georgia blue bonnet is chipped to high heaven after only 8 months.
I'd got used to folk complaining about rubbish paint on Civics but not on a VW. I'm assuming it is the water based rubbish that is being used these days.
I may be alone in having this problem but doubt it somehow?

Has anybody got anywhere complaining to VW?
Has anybody had a respray in a stronger paint (if that is possible) and has it helped?
Has anybody used Dr Colorchip or a similar UK based product from Chipex?

Sorry lots of questions from a newbie but its such a shame about the darned paint.

I got my first chip on my first journey - since then i thought it had been fine til the weekend when i washed it and found thre new ones - one a 10mm long scuff which is darker than the paint, but is within the paint, one a 4mm diameter chip down to the white surface/primer and another miniscule one. Now all these have happened int he last week and whilst i've done 400 miles in that time on a roads and motorways i've not been driving close to any other vehicles, and not noticed anything hitting the bonnet or windscreen.

At this rate i'll be respraying every 18 months !

DRColorchip seems to get some very good results over on detailingworld forum, but a lot depends on how you use it - like touch up pens some people can get it perfect and others make a right mess. There's also another product called langka that might be worth looking at too.

Autoexpress have had a red GTD on trial and one of their negative points was the paintwork. Having owned a civic before the golf I know the milano red and nighthawk black have been a nightmare for chips.

But I didn't expect metallic light blue to be this bad. I literally have a dozen or so large chips plus countless black flec type chips. I already have more than for our second car: a 55 plate 1.9 TDSE with 95k on the clock.

You could try something like ventureshield (clear plastic paint protection)

Whilst is may stop the paint beiong marked...

    1. the film itself gets marked so that doesn't stay perfect
    2. the edges of the film are obvious
    3. even when the edges are concealed its obvious where the film is it has nowhere near the same gloss and clarity of image that the paint has

Hey kabooooooom were you on civinfo.com I seem to recognise the name.
I to hoped for better paint on the golf, but my black mk6 is chipped to death after only 4k and it really shows as the undercoat is white.

I have to be honest the paintwork on my red GT is progressively becoming an issue like Auto Express' car, particularly as it appears the undercoat VW use is a white (or light) base coat that really shows up with the red surround.

Sadly however I don't doubt VW like every manufacturer who sells in the UK will deny any responsibility, citing everything from me driving the car on a road, right up to and including global warming.

I certainly will be raising it at its first annual check, especially as I'm using VW's "lease" option where the car has to be returned almost pristine after three years - I can't see that being the case with the bonnet though.

Yes I was on Civinfo and had every fault under the sun with the Civic.

I've ordered the kit from Chipex to try and get rid of some of the chips but if I'm honest I don't hold out too much hope on a light colour. I'm also not exactly expert at these sort of things and am more likely to make it worse, so I'll try the lower part of the front bumper first.

I ordered a kit from Chipex and tried it out today.

In summary, great at filling the depth of the chip and I think would make the chips almost invisible, if only the colour matched properly. Unfortunately it is too dark for my Georgia/Shark blue. I've emailed them to see what they suggest next.

    Hi Peeps
Agreed the paintwork is not brilliant, car is 4 months old and already has several small chips. Like others, my previous was a Civic, on which the paint was poor, and I expexcted better from VW. The light colour primer under 'Blue Graphite' does not help either.

Will shortly be impersonating Rembrant and trying to touch in. Feed back on the systems offered on the market would be appreciated as I am not to keen on making a 'Horlicks' of the attempt.

    regards
    dave
