Whats the penalty for driving with no MOT?

I don't think it's dealt with by fixed penalty, presumably unless you are going to an MOT I think the Police have the power to sieze the car and you will be reported for driving without an MOT, not sure on the fine. The thing to remember is that the Police can now sieze and impound cars that are not Insured, don't have an MOT, not Taxed and if the driver does not have a licence.

I got pulled last night as my mot had run out on the 4th but I thought it was the 14th. I had the test done but it failed on the exhaust which I had done last week!

He let me off but just gave me a producer for insurance. I thought this was pretty decent of him! Now I'm stuck without a car now

I guess he accepted that you had made a genuine mistake, did he issue you with a defect notice or did he say he would report you for having no MOT? it's unusual for police to be lenient on document offences.

you mean you got pulled with no mot and got let off. that cop must have been in one damn good mood ,at the end of his shift and been on a promise so couldnt be bothered with the paperwork as that would have made him late home. count yourself very lucky your car wasnt crushed in front of you, and if you ever see the policeman in a pub i would buy him drinks all night as he could have made life very very difficult for you.

Agreed it is very unusual to be let off, the Police reasoning is that if they let you continue in a vehicle that is un roadworthy or does not have valid documentation and you then have an accident then they would have acted negligently.

penalty points = 0

Likely penalty = fine up to £1000 ( means tested)

disqualification = not an option

fixed penalty option = yes

, the more you earn the more they could possibly fine you.
