    Hi there folks. I noticed that my 2.0 TFSI A4 has devoloped a 'stutter' or loss of power whn I am putting it under load in third, fourth, fifth or sixth gear, more noticable in third and forth when pulling out of a slip way onto a motor way etc.
    I carried out a code read this evening and found the below fault :

    I have only spent a little time this evening on it and have erased the faults to see what reappears after driving it tomorrow again but I have never came across this fault before and have done a little Saturday night 'Googling' while me and the wife watched a crap movie and have found mixed opions from folk saying that its either a sensor on the fuel rail or the hpfp itself. My understanding from what I seen with the little time that I had spent on it tonight is that the fuel pump sensor that sits on top of the hpfp is working as I used VCDS to activate it and it clicked on and off and did not bring up any faults after activation.
    Has anyone had any experiance with this fault ?

    Replace the lift pump in the tank first, this is the cause most of the time.

    Thanks Crasher for the reply. In the tank itself ? I take it that is the sensor simply picking up on actual low pressure then ? Have you seen this before Crasher ? It had me thinking it was the sensor as it said 'malfunction' rather than 'out of spec' or 'too low' ?

    I have all kinds of fun with this engine and the main four parts i replace for fuel pressure are
    fuel filter (pressure valve built in)
    fuel pressure limiting valve (I will send you a pm of its location)
    pressure pump (in tank)
    low pressure sensor (if it has the part number 06e 906 051k its the latest modified sensor)

    The problem is if you use mvbs to check the rail pressure it rarely shows you its out as its tested at idle so if you can connect a inline pressure gauge and road test it

    I found the pressure before the filter and after the filter is a critical test and you can check the delivery rate as well to make life easier on road test connect a amp clamp to the pump and you will see if the pump amperage spike's or not as well as how hard its working

    So if its working its balls off and you have a low pressure reading then the supply is restricted (filter blocked) or weak pump

    There is also a pump control unit to take into account but DONT GET ALL CONFUSED A PRESSURE TEST IS FAR MORE INFORMATIVE THAN ANY MVB VCDS READING

    I have spent a lot of time dealing with fuel pressure problems and these are my findings, the main problems are blockage/restrictions for fuel on demand requirements

    the limiting valve is a mechanical valve which blocks up (see your pm)

    One other overlooked problem around 5000 rpm is the plugs

    Also the injectors carbon up and create sporadic misfires, these misfires are compensated for and only possible to test with a scope

    Misfire detection kicks in and suppressor the cylinder in question turning the spark off and balancing the other cylinders to smooth out the running

    Reet off fishing no private work today lol

    Thanks A8 for the reply. I know it means nothing in this game these days but I replaced the spark plugs and the fuel filter with genuine Audi parts last year and have only done 3'000 miles ( she is only for the weekends lol ) and I have also had the coil packs replaced under the recall at the time so hopefully they are ruled out.
    I assume that when you mean to test the pressure before and after the filter, you mean with some sort of gauge connected at the two said points ? I dont have a pressure gauge for fuel that would have the connectors that I would need as I have never needed it
    To both Crasher and A8 ( after eating his Rainbow Trout ) : I know this is very novice of me to say but do you think that that I should buy the G247 sensor ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-GENUIN...item5d2f46c478 ) and throw on a new limiting valve as its only £5 at the same time ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Genuin...item20abc717dc ) and try them first ?
    I know its more 'try and error' rather than a proper diagnostic approach but I dont have the gauges to test the pressure properly and by the time I buy them, it will cost me more money.

    You ok mate, take g247 off and check the part number to see if its the latest one
    As for the fuel pressure and the new filter I have seen a few new filters fail as this filter also fits r8 I have replaced one 1 year after it was replaced for fuel contamination
    Problem, poor warm starting int misfire
    The pressure limiting valve is a pig to change (manifold off job) but its something I change now as a precaution and when to look inside you find its full of gunk
    Might be coming off the spanners soon (not at the weekend though lol) workshop manager
    As young crasher has said the pressure pumps can play up but take the pump out and remove the sieve, look for metallic bits showing signs of internal wear

    Yes I have seen may FSI VAG cars play up due to lift pump failure and initially I was mistakenly changing pressure sensors but I soon learnt that the lift pump was most often the culprit IF there were no rich and lean (yes, both) lambda errors indicating that the main pressure pump was low in delivery and leaking fuel into the engine, hence rich and lean codes together which in normal circumstances doesn't add up.

    A8 matey, as always, thanks for the help. I have got lost in the mvb info but thanks for the help lol.
    Off the tools ? You wont like not getting your hands into it and you know it
    Crasher, thank you indeed. Im going for a drive tomorrow and will erase any faults and try flicking through the mvb that is mentioned. Ill check to see what sensor is in mine too and if I get a chance, pull out the lift pump and get a look
