3 beeps from dash

Hi,

I recently bought a 1999 Golf 1.4 S. When I start the car and move off I get 3 long beeps coming from the dashboard with no lights or visible warnings, so I don't know what it could be. It also happens whilst i'm driving when i shift from 1st into 2nd gear. What could this mean?

Ours beeps when it's cold and the temp display flashes to indicate the risk of frost.
Drives me nuts lol

Yeah it is annoying! But doubt its anything to do with the cold as theres no snowflake symbol or flashing on the temp display...

My bro thinks it could be the temperature sender unit needing replacing because the temperature needle on the dash sometimes stays at 0, sometimes goes up to 90 where it should be and then drops off again while i'm driving... Got a replacement one ready to put on now just trying to get the old one off. Its a tricky little bugger, though!

Hi.
I don't think that your problem with the 3 beeps is not related to the temperature sender. My temp sender is failing and manifests itself by having an erratic temp needle on the cluster.
I would get a few beeps if I went to drive of and had left the handbrake on, maybe there is a sensor or something related to it that may be faulty ?
Just an idea.

3 beeps can be a sign of the alarm backup batteries failing. Does your alarm work?

The temp sender needs doing anyway so I got nothing to lose by doing that, I guess...

The guy who sold me the car said he recently bought a new battery and gave me the receipts to prove it! So how do I test the alarm?
I've not heard it go off since I bought the car - I didn't even know it had one.

Do you have a red LED on the drivers door that flashes when you lock it.
To test alarm.. Lockheed car with drivers windows open give it a minute to set then wave your arm about inside the car
