  1. Mirror dip on reverse issue?
    #1
    Wuffles Guest
As jbanfie kindly enabled this option for me I attempted to tell the story of an E46 3 series I owned that used to knacker up the final position of the mirror after every dip. Guess what my A6 does now after some dips. Are there grave instructions for use? Should I make sure the mirror has returned to the undipped position before turning off the vehicle for example?

Incidentally, BMW always blamed the problem on Uplands Car Radio who had replaced the dire standard fit speakers, whereas Uplands always blamed BMW, then I sold it.

Mine occasionally returns to a position too high for normal use. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it, though. Maybe one in 20 times I have to reset the mirror position afterwards. It certainly beats having to manually lower and raise the mirror every time I reverse, so I'm happy to live with it.

If you have memory seats and memory mirros it will return to the position set as it remembers the position.

It does on my car too, 95% of the time, but just occasionally it seems to throw a wobbler and reset to a random position. I keep meaning to re-engage reverse at that point and let the mirror dip again, then see if it returns to the normal position or the "new" position it adopted, but I haven't remembered to do it. Sigh. I'm getting to be a senile muppet these days!

It happened on the BMW possibly because we had memory seats. It seemed to highlight the problem more anyway.

So, with some experimentation I can get it to screw up nearly every time, but bad light stopped play for me tonight. I'll investigate further over the weekend. It must be the way/order I do things on the car that makes it happen otherwise others would surely be asking the same question.

Don't know if its the same for you guys but we enabled mirror dip on our A4 and you have to hit 15kph for the mirror to start to return to its original position. If you drop below this speed while its moving then it stays where it has stopped and doesn't carry on when you speed up.

It also un-dips when you press the Engine Stop button. In either situation, it mostly returns to my chosen driving position on my car, but just occasionally not.

Whee! This is my 2,500th post too! Most of them are pure drivel, of course!

Yes, that's what I rely on as I reverse into my drive.
