The slippery slope of modifying - RaceChip?

Hi,

I've managed to avoid modifying my last 2 cars (except wheel upgrades) but I'm feeling my 2.0 TFSI Quattro (210 BHP) has some ponies that need freeing up!

I'm considering the RaceChip box, they seem like a well conceived, professional German outfit. Does anyone have any opinions on them please?

I'd probably go for the RS box:

I'm not a mad man behind the wheel... would drive sensibly most of the time (and hopefully take advantage of the improved MPG it claims)... only putting the pedal to the medal as and when needed. With this in mind, do you think any other mods are needed to handle the extra power (circa +54 HP+84 Nm).

Any advice / opinions appreciated!

PS: Tempted to get a box rather than a direct ECU remap as I can take it to another car when I sell this one.

The box fools crucial sensors that tell the ecu vital information which can be detrimental . The so called mpg improvement because of this is fake .

And has no control over freeing up of torque limiters .

A with a remap nothing is fooled and operates at all time within safe peramiters .

As above the boxes are a bit dodgy on a petrol considering the tight combustion range. I have had 2 Petrol Turbos in my time first a TFSI 1.8 2010 A4 which was mapped by a South African company called Toxic Tuning, the support was like no other company and the tuning exceeded what i thought it would. Very smooth driving as if i had just stepped into a bigger engine car, ive seen plenty diesels which just feel like someone has decided that every part of driving should be times ten the speed. Next i had a BMW Xdrive 320i which was mapped by celtic tuning, this was the fastest car i've ever owned and again the tuning was excellent but it is expensive, though considering their reputation i was more than happy to pay.

Aside from the tuning i would suggest a rear muffler delete to give you a heavier tone from the exhaust, dont delete any cats or resonators as you need these for MOT and they make the car way too loud.

My nearest place is Awesome GTI just outside Manchester - they do APR tunes:
APR Stage 1 Remap - 2.0TSI (200/210bhp) Engines - Awesome GTI - Volkswagen Audi Group Specialists


It's £544.19 for the remap.. same kind of uplift in BHP / Torque as the RaceChip... so extra cost but you guys recon the ECU remap way is far better because the engine management can see all the true input values from all the sensors etc?


Funnily enough they also promote the RaceChip boxes quite heavily on their site!

CelticTuning actually have a better setup on the mainland, i didn't get a Dyno with mine but it was a lot cheaper than £544, I think from looking at their website map their is a CT Dealer in Stockport if thats near you? Dealer locator

Have a look at Shark Tuning in Mansfield.
They were taken over by Racing Line Performance - but I think they still do Shark stuff.

Oh, best get the brake pads upped at least, to some good spec and proper branded stuff. Not the cheapest offerings from Euro/GSF places.

Their dyno for the majority overreads .
So a 130 makes say 150 , final result is say 190 a 40 BHP improvement yet they say the gain is 60 BHP from 130 !
