Hi guys, I'm looking for a bit of advice. Basicly iv'e blown up my turbo (Power loss, lots of white smoke out exhaust, Very high revs then lots of rattling)

Im wanting to know if you think i should replace it with the same original turbo or could i upgrade it to a gt1749va or a BV43 without doing any other mods?

I wouldn't mind a bit of extra power, And im planning on having a remap and fitting the egr blanking plates iv'e brought in the near future.

But if its going to mess up the engine without any other mods then i will just fit the same turbo that it has in at the moment.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

before thinking about a new bigger turbo, you need to make sure your engine is ok. very high revs then lots of rattling sounds pretty bad to me.

I've given it to a mechanic who's checked over the engine, he first thought it was the big ends. Apparantly the turbo has blown up due to lack of oil. (there was no oil at all in the engine)
before this happened the drivers side half shaft popped out, i think the ball joint snapped or something. anyway i got that fixed by a friend but didnt think of checking the oil i know im a noob with cars, i then found a little hole in one of the boost pipes so i patched up the hole with some duct tape to see if there was any difference to the boost. there was a big difference and it was pulling away a lot quicker. me being the noob that i am, thought "lets give it an italian tune up to clear all the crap out. the guy fixing it for me said the fan was in pieces inside the turbo housing but doesnt think any of it has gone into the engine. and after filling the engine with oil it all seems ok apart from the turbo.

Ok so i have the turbo out of my car, the numbers on it is - 454158-1 028145702c

Do i need to get a turbo with the exact same numbers or would a 454231-1 fit?
