Think Mazda has mastered the diesel like petrol already in their new skyactiv engines. Obviously in their blurb they didn’t mention possibly more particulate just lower co2 so gpf is the new thing on petrols. It was a matter of time. The catalytic converters hasn’t changed much in the last 30 years. Where as diesel has had all sort of new tech like dpf and adblue.

...well, we’ve had hybrids and the new GPF is a legal requirement from next year I think. Adblue will f-up parts of the engine after a while. Does that on our trucks that we operate. An expensive part to change (dont remember the exact name of it though).

Yes, adblue clogs up the exhaust with a substance akin to limestone and sticks like **** to a blanket, so adblue defeat for cars is already available, another example of criminals taking advantage of a situation to make a few dishonest quid. What really grinds my gears is that Austin Rover (yes them) had full lean burn technology ready to market in the late 80’s but the EU turned around and said for EU1 all cars MUST have a cat and lean burn could not at that time use a cat, as it did not need one... Funnily enough the German and French car manufacturers did not have their own lean burn technologies but could easily slap on a cat which turned the “nasty” gasses into “harmless” Co2....
