Hopefully you will be able to register it before the new, brutal RFL scheme comes in. That will save you a few thousand, I would think.

But out of interest, how much would it be?

Here in Germany the S6 cost €328/year in tax and to compare, the BiTdi actually more at €423!

If you registered an S6 in the UK before 31st March 2017 you would pay £650 for the first year and £295 per annum after that (BiTDi numbers are £185 first year and £185 per annum after that). If you register the S6 after 31st March 2017, then you would £1200 in the first year and £140 per annum after that (BiTDi would be £500 in first year and £140 per annum after that)

That isn't quite right. As both the new cars would be over the £40k list price limit, the RFL will be £140 + £350 'premium tax' so £490 per year for each car.

The new rules for RFL from 1st April 2017 next year are:

All cars under £40k list are £140 p.a. unless zero emission
All cars over £40k list are £490 unless zero emission
Zero emission cars are £0 if under £40k or £350 if over £40k (i.e. Tesla)

Apologies forgot about the £350 premium for cars over £40k

That colour looks stunning. I went for Sepang Blue which doesn't look quite as deep as that. But then it's rarely clean.

Good man, ditching the evil black pump for a proper V8! I did it over a year ago (RS6) and asked myself the same questions as you around fuel and service costs. But would you believe it, they were forgotten within a few days. I never owned a BiTdi so couldn't really compare on a day to day basis but every time I tickle the throttle and get that lovely woofle I know I made the right decision. Yes, fuel economy is terrible but I'm sure it wouldn't be great in the congested South East of England even in BiTDI? And no DPF to worry about!

And yes, just occasionally, it can be hilarious. Some drivers see it as just another 2.0 Tdi estate with big alloys. Right up until the lights go green. They're mainly BMW M3/M4 drivers who have something to prove.

Our second car is now fully electric, so it feels like we've balanced out the extravagance of the V8.

Thanks! I am really looking forward changing from all that black to something different for once. Last time I had something different than black was back in 2003 (if we dont count my 30 yrs old car and my Mustang)! The BiTdi is a gem to be honest. Plenty of power and that all important torque.

I were also looking at an RS6 (even drove one) but everyone here knows what it is and would give a bad taste (jelousy) in my customers mouth. Wouldn't matter if you pay for it yourself.....so in the end settled for the S6 which is a bit more subtle.

Hehe.....we have ditched diesel in my household like theres no end tomorrow. In March wife's V40 D4 went for a petrol XC60 T5 and daughters car is a Golf 6 1.4 Tsi.

Re fuel economy, i simply dont care anymore. One only live once and why the hell not!? Just enjoy life as much as possible....thats the reason why I got a Mustang GT last year and one would rearely see better than 19-21mpg in that... But its all good fun! As a note, the S6 is supposedly quicker and grip will certainly be a lot better thanks to the Quattro system.

I'm sure you will enjoy it!

I ran a couple of tanks of gas through my 5.4L V8 F150 where I gunned it at every possible opportunity, just to see how low I could get the mpg... the best (worst) was 7!
