At £15k I think you may struggle to get as "young" a car as you're wanting, unless it has pretty high mileage. A week ago I paid (a somewhat over the odds admittedly) £14.5k from a local non-Audi dealer (I paid over the odds because he was 3 miles from home - and had the right spec) for a 2006/56 3.0l Tdi Tiptronic Quattro Avant Le Mans, bluetooth, sunroof, colour dvd nav with CD autochanger (MMI 2G high), adaptive Xenon headlights, privacy glass, Bose speakers, auto dippping rear view mirror, advance park assist with rear camera, with 65,000 miles and full Audi FSH and one owner plus Audi. I also think you'll struggle to find a manual version, and that the DMF issues should put you off them anyway! Le Mans has leather as standard, with heated front seats. Bluetooth is an extra, as are parking sensors I believe.

Dual Mass Flywheel - fitted to most diesel manuals for the last decade or so at least, and to some for a lot longer than that and prone to dinintegrating (for instance a Mondeo will go through one every 75,000 or so) and taking the clutch with it. Conventional autos don't have it.

Have a google - it's to help smooth out the power delivery from diesels.

Thank you for the input. Have checked Google and finally found a site written in Laymans terms! Wasnt sure if it was on auto's as well as manuals. Do i take it then that the Auto box is generally more reliable than the manual? Does that include the Tiptronic box as well?

    any opinions on this:

I think soem types of auto box still have them - the DSG ones on the Golf etc I believe, and I'm not sure whether the Audi Multitronic had one - but thas on non Quattros and isn't recognised as a such a reliable box. The Tiptronic auto on the quattros seems from what I can find to be pretty bulletproof.

As to the car you've linked to, looks good, especially the heated screen (I had a C-max with the quickclear screen, magic in winter), but no blutooth. This can be professionally retrofitted with Audi parts for around £300. Will have rear parking sensors only possibly, but the best way to check for extras is to go see. The dealer advertising mine didn't mention the dipping rear view mirror, or the bluetooth.

The likeliest fault is associated with the inlet swirl flaps on these engines. Unlike BMW they don't drop into the engine, but also unlike the BMW there's no cheap "remove and blank" fix as there would always be a fault indicated in the Audi. The Audi has a motor and linkage arrangement to move the flaps (a low revs emmissions fix), the linkage wears, then when the motor cycles at startup the sensor doesn't see a full range of movement so faults. Audi main dealer fix around £1200 per bank - 2 on a V6 of cousre. Less at a good indie, and alledgedly (I've not called to ask) Fontains in Iver, Bucks has sub £500 per side fix.

PM me your email adress (you'll nee 10 posts to do so!) and I'll send you the relevant Audi brochure for that model year (or you can find it on the Audi official site under used A6's) and the recent Autocar used buy review of the A6 which mentions the Fontain fix.

Sorry, my bad should have posted that 3.0 is tiptronic & quattro as standard, 2.7 is tip/quattro optional, etc

Only reason I quote was did not want new buyer to think if he go for any type of auto they do not have dmf... people sometimes change mind...

and rafletcher (slapped thanks on post of Autocar Buyers guide yesterday good read )

What are the levels of MMI? Ive seen one advertised as MMI Basic Plus (6.5 monochrome screen).

Is there a Basic, Basic Plus and High?

Also, are halogen lights the same as Xenon (or Bi-Xenon)? PLease excuse my ignorance!!

    Cheers,

    Ash
