This won't help the reputation of diesel in the land of V8 pickups.

I wonder if similar things happen in Europe for our emissions testing?

If they were happy with normal sized cars and realistic engine/power figures, then this would be a non issue.
Of course while you can buy fuel for half the price of Europe why would you even consider a 2.0 Passat as a family car instead of a v8 toureg SUV... The U stands for Unnecessary.

Volkswagen emissions scandal: millions of Britons could be driving illegal cars - Telegraph

One can only wonder what this will do to the resale value of affected cars?

And whether potential purchasers will be pulling out of orders...

    Very sad day for VW/Audi.

It will just mean that the PPI money grabbing type will swing into to action claiming to have suffered in some way. There is nothing wrong with the vehicles, they just inject more adblue to make emissions look better than they really are in everyday use...but again someone will no doubt see this as an opportunity to make some money! From a nation that is one of the biggest polluters they will still take VW Group to the cleaners both with fines and civil actions..."oh I live next door to someone with a VW diesel and have been breathing in their exhaust fumes for years, how much can I claim?". Ultimately the company will need to shrink (potential 20billion fine versus 66billion capitalisation), people will lose their livelihoods, new model development will suffer, as will Motorsport involvement.

No one should lie or deceive, so VW group only have themselves to blame unfortunately. That said, I'd be surprised if VW are the only company to be caught out though.

It's all about the money , not health , the fines , taxes , the person that experiences the most NOx is the car driver as the cabin has a collecting effect , if they cared all vehicles would have an activated charcoal pollen filter ( grey type ) that helps filter out the harmful pollutants .

It's all a clever ploy linked to the introduction of higher rate VED for 2017.

I haven't worked out the rest, I'm sure there are thousands of tinfoil wearing moro...people who have though.

At least VW have not been killing people by fitting dodgy parts, but they do deserve a nice big slap!
