Wifes 2011 A6 fitted new Pagid brake pads 2/3 weeks ago, been fine since but now shes reporting grinding noise when cornering at slow speed, ie turning in or out of a junction.
Rear pads came with the stainless pad slider widgets, everything cleaned up prior to fitting new pads, slider pins removed and greased with proper slider pin grease.
Quick check when she got home tonight showed them to all be quite warm and slightly smelly, covered 2/300 miles at most.

I will take them down again and check, just looking for some advice on what else it may be?

When they have worn down to nothing then they can get a noise as to describe.

Have you got a sticking piston on one of the calipers.

Dan no they were all lovely and smooth and retracted nicely no sticking etc.
I asked her how it was today when she got home? oh its fine she said no noise and no smell!
I can only assume the smell was new pads bedding in and as for the noise gawd knows?
On the bright side its meant to be cold this weekend and now I havent got to take it apart

On the downside mates coming around with his range rover v8 diesel with possibel vgt issues!

If you do not fit new discs all pads can do this as they try and bed in, we have got the the point of refusing to do pads only due to the squeal comeback issue. We use Pagid all day long and have done for 30 years.

Thats great thank you, the reason I went for them was the factor offered me a choice and I used to use Pagid brake shoes on hgvs about 20 years ago and they were okay so thought why not?
I fit pads all day long at work on the trucks and they also smell after their test drive, but very quickly goes away, but thinking abiut it thats because they do a 2/3000kms per week!
I think it was the nosie that threw me, especially as her descriprion was as usual vague beyong belief

I’ve had pads that have squealed and got hotly just as you described and it was down to the paint thickness on the locating lugs that fit into the stainless shims, they were sticking and not letting the pads move freely, 5 minutes and some sand paper all sorted..

We get the same with the trucks due to paint on the end of the pads and rust in the calliper carrier sliders, needle gun soon sorts that out.

Hiya.....are you sure it's the brakes?
Check the power steering pump...my power steering fluid level was very low and it showed symptoms exactly as your wife describes. Low speed into and out of corners I'd get a grinding noise coming from the front of the car.... New fluid put in and system bled and it's been fine ever since.

We call it a descaler gun but it is the same thing and what we do as well to the whole caliper and carrier. We have a blasting cabinet and can do them that way but it is unnecessary and takes too long. We also air gun wire wheel the sliders and use Wurth Aluminium paste on the contact faces.
