    Hi all
I’ve recently purchased a A3 1.8 tfsi, after putting it on a friends ramps and giving it a good service, I spotted a dreaded coolent leak🤦*♂️ But could work out where it’s leaking from!
After monitoring it for a week, I’ve noticed it only leaks after the car has reached full temp and the been turned off, I’ve been struggling to find where it’s coming from, but, I can now narrow to do to the front of the engine in the middle and can just see a wet area through all the hoses.
It seems to be running down the block and underneath, and stopping on the gearbox, making it look like the gearbox is leaking.
I’m a my wits end with if new and I’m lost for ideas of what it could be.
Next step us to totally strip the front end down to find the issue but that means having the car off the road for a few days. Meaning unhappy wife, cause I’ve brought a faulty car lol
I would be so grateful for any advice as to what might be leaking.
    Cheers rich

It could be the electric water pump, they are prone to leaks. Look out for purple dry powder around hoses and couplings, that is what dry G13 coolant looks like.

    Thanks crasher
Il try get a even better look, I’m just really struggling to get a good view without stripping loads of stuff out of the way.
The leak is dead centre at the front of the engine block. I can’t seem to find a good parts drawing.
My thinking was either what you mention or possibly the coolant flange?
I don’t really want to start pulling the car apart until I have the parts that could of failed in that area.

That is the modern engine bay for you and why we get stressed when mr/mrs average have a leak and are incredulous that it takes two hours to even get at it saying "when I were a yung un me dads Cortina had a leak and the bloke next door fixed with with a bottle of somit, can't you do that?"
