Hiya, this has happened to my passat today, abs warning light now stays on, i now have no brake lights so check yours, hooked it up to my scanner & i got a fault code 00526, this should hopefully mean a faulty brake switch which costs about a £10er & around half an hour to fit yourself, do a search on here, there is quite a bit of info, hope this helps mate.

A scan would be a good start.

The fault code it gives would point you in the right direction.

same thing happened with mine a while back, turned out to be the MAF sensor !
get your fault code read that should help to pin point your problem !

I have both the lights on my 2001 bora tdi. I hace vagcom and it turned out to be the wheel speed sensor on the drivers side. Changed this as it was knackered but the light is still on. As I was changing it I noticed the hub was had a little movement so im guessing it this that causing the lights to come on. ABS and brakes are working fine. If your in Manchester could do a scan for you.
