We have just bought a VW Passat as a family car [plate 2004] it seems great but just found there is water leaking from somewhere into the driver's footwell. anyone else had this problem - I gather it may be clogged drain holes.

Hello and welcome. You had me confused there, I was wondering how a 3C Passat (B6 if you must) was leaking as I have not had that yet, your car is a 3B Passat (B5), the up to 2005 model. Yes, it is likely to be the drains under the battery, if you do a search it is probably the most commonly asked question on the forum, that and “what oil do I use?”.

Moved to the 3B section (1997 to 2005)

See the "My Passat" link in my sig and in the first post you'll find a link to water ingress.

If it is only leaking into the drivers footwell,it could be the bulkhead bonnet release cable grommet that has come adrift.

    Best,

It could be coming from the inner door plate seals, check the bottom of the door and the sill with a hose on the window.

Does your heat work? Often this is the result of a failed heater core.
