    Hi all,

Well firstly its been a good summer, its been relatively trouble free, I've replaced the bushes and ball joints which really improved the steering, and also the exhaust gaskets from the head down to the cat as they were blowing. I was really suprised at how raspy it was in comparision!

Anyhow - as per the title really, I have an old complaint that is becoming more regular. Sometimes, upon acceleration I hear a knocking sound coming from the engine, which I can hear from drivers side window. It increases and decreases in line with the engine RPM, and doesnt seem to start or stop for any particular reason.

When I depress the clutch, or take the strain off the engine, it seems to disappear, but as soon as I engage the clutch again it starts. However, it also just stops making the knocking sound just as quickly as it started.

I am guessing that it would be a fly wheel, or the camshaft or something? Just not sure where/what to check - or have my mechanic chap check on this one? It doesnt help that it is inconsistant, but I suspect it will slowly get worse.

    Any ideas???

    Thanks all,

    Jonno

Does it do this when warming up? Could be Hydraulic tappet noise - as the air bleeds out of them they go quiet.

Get a mechanics stethoscope and put in on the bottom of the block and listen......if its pronounced ,then i'm afraid its not good...............big end/crank shells worn ?
What mileage has it done ?
