As A6 Chris said I think I can also remember that old thread where vaguely the breaking was at the rear and helped prevent bottoming out going over a crest. I do generally drive slowly but have sensed this myself in the past. If I have chance over the next few days I will try to replicate.

If this is the case then nothing to worry about except that the car is programmed to be more intelligent than us!

Brilliant Greg, I've been looking for this post a while but I've always assumed it was the car breaking rather than holding back power.

I suppose the feature is good if you have been a bit overexcited on an unfamiliar road it could save your bacon but as Bold said it can be annoying when you know the road like the back of your hand.

At the end of the day its not a worry now and it could look after me one day in the future.
Car is an 08 so its starting to show its age and I want to address all the little niggles before they develop......next is the rattle from which is believed to be the flywheel :-(

    Thanks again folks.

I experience this and have assumed that it may be an effect on the throttle cable of the engine braking slightly tilting the engine and so throttle body and so reducing the throttle opening. This assumption is wholly untested, but it keeps me from worrying about the phenomenon.
