I have a 2005 A6 2.0 TDI and it will no longer lock or unlock with the buttons on my key; I now have to use the door lock manually. This is a pain as I now have to put the key in the ignition and turn it on to prevent the alarm from sounding; not very convenient when you just want to open the boot. Initially I thought it might be the key battery but the battery was replaced and spare key tried without any result.

The symptoms were that the key button would work intermittantly at first and gradually over about 3 months it stopped working altogether.

I assume there is a unit in the car somewhere that takes the key signal and unlocks the doors and it is this that might be at fault. I haven't asked the dealer to look at it yet, I was hoping it might be worth trying to find out and then fix it myself, if possible.

I would be grateful for any suggestions.

    John.

Is your front passenger footwell damp.
The CCM lives under the pax seat, this gets wet if the bulkhead drains are blocked.
The CCM controls a lot of the functions, electric windows, alarm and CL amongst
    others.

Do you get the same problem with both keys? If so, I'd suggest getting the car scanned for faults. If it's just an issue with one key, it may be a duff key battery, a faulty key or it may simply have lost its coding to the car.

    Cheers!

    Try this.
KEY PROGRAMiNG: NOTE-obtain and program all keys! (max4 keys at a time !). Switch ignition on. Use key not fitted with remote control. Manually lock driver's door using key. Complete the following within 30 seconds. Within 5 seconds press UNLOCK button on first key once(programs memory position 1). Wait 5 seconds.Press unlock button once to confirm programming. Vehicle unlocks. Programming mode deactivated. Switch ignition off. Remove key. To program remaining keys into memory 2,3 and 4, carry out the complete procedure below for each key. Switch ignition ON, Use key not fitted with remote control, manually lock driver's door using key, within 5 seconds press UNLOCK button at 1 second interval as follows: TWICE for memory position 2(second key), THREE times for memory position 3(3rd key), FOUR times for memory position 4. Indicators lamp flash once every time UNLOCK button is pressed, to indicate signal received. WAIT 5 seconds. Press UNLOCK button once to confirm programing. Vehicle unlocks. Programing mode deactivated. Switch ignition OFF and REMOVE key. NOTE: ignition must be switched off between each key programing procedure. Please follow as instructed and it should work. Its MUCH EASIER to do with vag-com but you need a valid login code for immobiliser. Hope this helps.
    Regards Peter

I have been away from the site for a while so just getting round to looking at replies.

    Kite no problems with damp.

Peter D, this looks most promising so I will give it a try over the coming week-end.

    Thanks all for you suggestions.

    John.
