    I have a fairly steep drive into which I normally reverse. However I popped out for 1/2 hour and got caught in a heavy rain storm. On returning to the car I noticed the rubber mat on the passenger side was a little wet, strange I thought. I drove home and as there was a car behind I pulled in nose up the drive. However I quickly realised that the water on the passenger mat was increasing and realised that the plenum chamber under the battery must be blocked. I rapidly turn the car round so it was nose down. I popped into the garage and grabbed a length of 10mm ID plastic hose, removed the battery cover and plunged the hose into the water and under the battery and syphoned out what appeared to be well over 2 litres of water. As I can not garage the car I am going to have to cover the lower screen and bonnet with heavy duty cling film for this evening as I can not get it in my garage. So guys be warned they do fill up when blocked and can do sever damage as there is one if not 2 ECU's under the passenger floor. Is it possible to gain access to the drain hole from underneath the car and rake out the debris. If so where exactly is it. Regards Peter

    It's a very well documented problem on the B5 platform.

    Have a read of the following post, I image the locations/set up are much the same on the A6;

    https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=607.

    I posted a link on the first page I think

    Only just cleaned mine out at the weekend as the waterlevel was building.

    Easy enough to do

    just remove battery, and you will see a hole about the size of a 2p piece full of leaves.

    Flush it out with a hose

    Problem solved till next time it clogs. why it has to be smack bang under the battery I will never know !

    Do check there's not another drain hole on the other side of the car, just in case

    I pushed the rubber bung things right out. I have one here on my desk at work, it gets thrown around quite a lot

    Does the Audi also have the second hole under the brake servo like the Passat has and can you not clear them from underneath with a hook on the the end of a bit of welding rod or the like. Regards Peter

    Niall, you say that Audi are not admitting to a problem. My mate took his back to Audi Stockport when he had heard of a recall. Does this mean some dealerships won't do the work and some will?

    Change your dealership - Colbournes (Basingstoke Audi) immediately volunteered there was an active recall on the car (2002 A6) and did the work under Audi Warranty, even though it's well outside of this.

    Gilders in Shefield recalled mine for a plenhum chamber problem, and even did a free valet on it .

    Job done this morning. Battery out ( I hope you have your radio code )and on mine ( Feb 98 1.8T ) there is no need to remove the battery trap as there is an access hole in it. sure enough a collection of small soggy leaves in both drain holes, the one under the battery and the one under the brake servo, you can access this from the passenger side and behind the aircon pipe jacket. I used a grabber and an aqauvac with a lenth of 10mm ID plastic tube. Make sure you get all the leaves out and flush out the crud. Good clean out and flush through and remove the pollen filter and dry out the filter and the foam noise dampener in the air duct down to the fan. The interior carpet is fair try now just with a 1KW heater and door left open for 2 hrs so I was lucky. Thanks Guys. Regards Peter
