I am suffering a recurrence of a central locking/alarm problem which I cured a couple of years ago by replacing corroded bits of the wiring loom.
My nearside rear door has been working on and off for about a month, and now both rear doors are permanently locked.
My problem is that even with the battery disconnected, (and unlike the last time this happened) the inner door handles will not open the doors. They lift the buttons, but these spring back when the handle is released.
Does anyone know how I can open the doors.
My car is 11 years old and has done 170000m, so I would be quite happy if I could disable the central locking and continue to lock up manually.

    Yours in anticipation

Have you got electric rear windows or manual. Check the ccm wires like last time. That's the most likely problem.

I had a problem like this with the front passenger door of my 2003 Passat estate. After removal of the door panel from inside I eventualy had to smash the locks to bits to open the door only to find that the lock was probably fine but that one cable in the wiring loom had snapped.

I decided the better fix would have been to identify the broken cables by continuity testting each coloured cable, with the connector blocks disconnected, then bypassing the broken cable/s to activate the lock, open the door and then run the bypass cable through the rubber sleeve in the door hinge. Would have saved me the price of the new lock!
