hello peeps, have been driving my £300 1995 A4 1.6 for about 4 months now and i think the fuel economy is absoloutely gash!!!

im averaging about 350miles from full to the light coming on. thats using V power, after a full service and all fault codes cleared. aswell as slightly overfilling tyres to help increase the MPG.... crusing at 3.5k all the way never going above 4k. gentle acceleration and basically trying to hyper-mile the car...

im thinking it could be the thermostat as some plonker has previously filled it with rad-weld, so im guessing its jammed open. anybody know how much it costs to replace???

i would have thought 350 miles to the tank would be pretty good actually.

i've had a 1.4 polo which weighs nothing and even driving as economical as i can i manage just under 400.
But on average i get 350-370.
For a car that over 10 years old i don't consider that bad at all.
And mate you have a 15 year old car and you get 350 miles on a tank!!!
I think you're quite lucky in many respects to get what you do

fair enough then mate... i just see it as bad considering the size of fuel tank lol

    parkers guide says 34MPG

    i worked out 37.2MPG

so its better than the book figures.... JUST!!!

meh bugger it, selling it in around a month, had enough!!!

If you look in the boot on the option sticker it states that it burns 11L of petrol in town, 7 extra and about 9 L/100Km average. The engine is way too small for the size of the car and badly geared, it will wizz the engine to the point that it's un-bearable on the motorway past the 80Mph... Missus had a passat saloon with that engine, could not pull the skin of a custard-wery underpowered !
