    Polo 9N Fault Code 17961

This fault relates to a 1.4L Polo BBY engine. The fault code is 17961 Barometric/Manifold Pressure Signals : Implausible Correlation. P1553 -35 -10 Intermittent. The car runs OK although a little noisy when cold.
Could any experts out there let know what the probable cause of the problem is ? Many thanks

Re: Polo 9N Fault Code 17961

hi check the timing belt tensioners they are plastic coated and the plastic coating can come off which puts the timing slightly out causing a code i have seen 2 in the last year on V.W 1.4 16v engines with this problem although i cannot remember what code it was that they had but may be worth a look and might save you many hours of head scratching.

Re: Polo 9N Fault Code 17961

The car at the start of the thread was my son in laws car. A little while after this he booked it into a VW dealership for an MOT and when he got it back I noticed that the hose from the inlet manifold to the brake vacuum reservoir had been replaced (at no charge). Perhaps this was the cause of the problem. The car now belongs to someone else but is still running albeit with horrendous piston slap, particularly when cold, and big end rattle when hot. Best of luck with yours!
