    2001 A3 1.6 daughters car
    code 16524 EPC light on
    cleared came stright back on

    i know its the lamba but can it cause the car to run crap cut out etc ?

    An AVU engine then. Yes it could cause it to act up but the failure of the sensor is more likely to be a symptom of an upstream problem than the fault itself. If the fault comes straight back, all you can do is fit a new sensor and go from there.

    what other problems could lead to the lamba failing ?
    no other codes never missed a beat untill last few days when light come on and would you know how many wires the lamba has

    16524 (P0140) -035- Bank 1, probe 2. No activity.

    Being as it is the after cat sensor it is not so much of an issue. The genuine part number is 06A 906 262 AJ. It is a four wire sensor, two whites to the heater, a grey and a black. Bosch offer a direct fit part (0 258 006 257) or a universal part (0 258 986 602) and it is available from various other companies.
