The ball joint on the suspension arm needs replaced, and I am needing a bit of advice doing so. I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to car maintenance, but having had a look at the suspension arm, I feel that I should give it a go. Access to the bolt at the spring looks as if it may be troublesome, but it would be appreciated it someone could tell me what to do, and what problems I may encounter.

    Cheers!

HI, You can't replace the ball joints you require new arms. Unbolt the shockabsorber from the bottom arm and separate the bottom ball joint from the suspension carrier. Remove the long bolt from the top of the suspension carrier securing it to the top ball joints and seperate the ball joint from the carrier. Remove the bolts from inside the engine compartment at the top of the suspension turret and lower the complete top carrier and arms. Changing the arms on the bench is relatively easy. Suggest you replace both top arms to save repeating job in near future.

    Regards,
    Irh.

adding to the earlier comment, the bolts holding the arms to the carrier need to be tightened so as to hold the arms in their natural position as when the weight of the car is back on them. i change one arm at a time, using the other as a reference, providing the old arms are in the correct place to start with. failure to get it right will stress the rubber bushes, thus shortening their lives.
