    Hi,

I have recently fitted a towbar to my mk3 that I removed from a scrap yard.
    Fitted no problems.

The electrics have me a little puzzled. ..
I assume that the break light feed just needs taking from one side of the loom or do you need to take both sides?

I can get one break light to work (sidelights off) or both side lights working but I cant get the brake to operate while the side lights are on?!

    Indicators are fine

I seem to be having earthing issues. There is one earth from the tow bar loom (white) I think that's it.

I used a mulimeter to discover wires but now have haynes manual to check tonight.

    Any tips or ideas?

The brake light feed is taken from the one side only, and it does sound like you have a poor earth connection,.and make sure you have the right bulbs on the trailer

    Ok Cheers.

I have earthed the towbar to the car body. Not much else I can do!
One of the wires at the back of the light loom has a permenant 12v live I could not work out why? I think its grey/red

    Any other words of wisdom?!

the grey on red wire is the right tail light, the white wire (31) from the trailer contact must be earthed

    Thanks Kenney.
Luckily all my wiring matched the Haynes manual but still having problems with intermitant bulbs not lighting. I have traced this to be the bulb holders rather than the connectors as the wiring is doing as it should when tested (trailer side).

Why are the trailer lights bulb holders so badly made!? I would rather use a small car light cluster if there is such a thing!?
