I knew that my car did shake a bit when travelling on uneven roads ( 19inch rs4 alloys ) but i noticed today after 50miles of driving in sunny weather ( for once) that my car was making a strange noise when turning left or right, it felt like something was about to snap from underneath! It also make weird noises over bumpy roads like never b4! (afterall it is a 2001 tdi model with 90k on the clock)

Can anyone tell me what the damage (driveshaft?) is likely to be and the rough cost of replacing the worn parts?

And why does it always happens wen you have a small budget aside to do your car up for summer!!!

It could be many things. Drive shaft, CV joint, shocks/springs, hubs etc. It's most likely to be the bushes. They are cheap but labour is likely to be at least a hundred quid.
These things happen when you'd planned other things due to 'sods law'.
I'm sure some of the Golf owners have experienced the same problem as you and will shed a brighter light on it for you.
    Welcome to the forum!

Sounds like a problem I had with a twig stuck in one of the coils of the suspension. I was under the car with lights and all sorts. Only viewable when raised though. Hope it's omething like that, sounds expensive otherwise, half the things the techs suspected it "might" be, made the eventual twig a nice surprise.

Good luck, does sound like it needs lifting tough.

Well i did take my car to work this morning (against all odds) and guess what??? no one noise from the front suspension part (and it was a 30mins drive on all types of roads), thought the problem went away (my mistake) until i finished work and drove back home in blasting sunny weather, i think the problem mite be due to heat?? d'you think it could just be that a ball joint or something else is stiff and could do with a bit of greasing ?

I have that same problem on my Bora TDi (2001) i have changed the wishbones, bushes, springs and dampers, yet to my dismay, the noise persists.....sounds like something is loose but i have checked everything. What did you do to cure yours? where and what did you grease?
    cheers.
