Hi What was the control unit you replaced? The 96 Sharan does not have a control unit for the central locking, under the seat. The central locking and alarm system is operates by the multifunction control unit.A fault code read might help

Hi thanks for replying.I was told that this unit under the passenger seat is prone to water damage and it controls the central locking, alarm and interior light function via door pin switches so i replaced it.How can i read the faults,do i need a special reader?Where is the control unit for these functions situated please? Also the drivers and passengers window have packed up but i can open/close passenger window with passenger side switch and only open passenger window with driver side switch.Driver window wont do either
    thanks

Sorry for the wrong info, the information from Elsa was not quite right. The proper info is On vehicles 09.97 ▸, the control unit for central locking and anti-theft alarm system is integrated in the multi-function unit (electronic central electrics). The control unit for central locking for 96 mod, as you said is indeed under the seat. You will need diagnostic equipment to see if there are any faults logged

All fixed now.Called out a mobile electrician and he went straight to the problem which was a broken wire in the drivers side door loom where it exits the door. The other thing was where previous owner had removed the fuse for the central locking because the ecu was damaged with water ingress through scuttle pan, only cost me £28 which i think was pretty reasonable. If anybody interested and lives near Plymouth his name is Ceri Critten phone 01752 556093 and i can highly recommend him
