    No button for me.

I do have the cruise control though which is the button on the indicator stalk.

I have to work out my mpg the old fashioned way. Divide the number of miles I have done by the number of gallons to fill up. Just filled up again and did slightly better. 44mpg!

I just don't know how people are getting over 50mpg from this engine. Maybe that computer is telling porkies?

Got my Golf Match 1.9TDI in early January and have now covered 3,200 miles of Norfolk and Suffolk roads. The engine is loosening up nicely and the computer tells me I've averaged 50.9mpg overall.

I am actually doing better than that; I keep accurate refuelling records and the car has averaged 51.58mpg overall since new but over the last 1200 miles it is averaging better than 52mpg and it should continue to improve yet. I'm hoping to better 53mpg as an average once the engine has got more miles on it.

    All the best

I don't completely trust the onboard computer so I do the painful calculation after each fill up.

I'm getting 48 (give or take a decimal point) overall. I reckon this is pretty good given that I don't do that many long journeys and I live in a hilly area.

The one long trip I did do, I got over 55 mpg.

I have an 04 1.9 TDi SE MkV Golf,
Two years ago I used to get about 500 miles to the tank full.
Then I invented my NONE EcoDriving warning device now I get 600 and often 620 even 640 miles to the tanks full... I get more MPG around town now than I do on 70 MPH A Road Mway trip...

It's not the car its how you drive it.. It takes a lot of fuel to accelerate a mass so back off the loud peddle and look ahead a lot more.

Did you know that the LEM (lunar excursion module).. The little tin can they used to pop two men on the moon weighed less than the weight of a smart car and in took over 3,000 TONS of fuel just to accelerate it up to speed, the first stage engines alone burning about 16 tons of fuel per second... All that just to get it up to speed as it a free ride across space.

    Hope that helps IMK

One thing that makes a difference is the type of fuel I've found using the higher grade of diesel gives more out a tank then the standard stuff.
