Can anybody please provide me with information on how to remove the o/s rear door trim panel, my old passat had small screws around the edges but i seem unable to spot how this is held in place ( dont just want to force panel and hope it pops off) Iam trying to get to the door handle mechanism it works fine from the inside but not from the outside, so thinking something has either broke or come loose.
Any help would be very appreciated.

There is a little bowden cable connecting the handle to the lock mechanism. This sometimes comes off. To remove the trim use a wide blade screwdriver or a tough paint scraper or even a proper trim tool. Once you've lifted a section you will hear the popper come out. Work round the edge feeling for the next popper so that you always lever close to the popper. You'll be fine if you take care.

hi thanks all for the replies, martin1810 mentioned about a "bowden cable" is this something that breaks and will need replacing when i remove the trim panel or is it just one of those things that comes loose.

not sure what is meant by the bowden cable, just when the door card comes away, be careful as the door pull cable will still be connected, should be obvious how it detaches when you see it

There is a little cable connecting the outside door handle to the inside lock mechanism. This often becomes detached so the outside handle doesn't work. I'm sure there is a thread on here about it somewhere.

hi martin1810 you were spot on it was the little cable connecting the outside door handle to the inside lock mechanism, i just latched it back over the cam and there appears to be an adjusting screw on the side of the door, tightened that up a little bit, put plenty of grease on everything that now seems to work.
I had to drill out the 2 pop rivets holding the window mechanism to the door inner trim panel to get the panel off, gonna go out tmrw morning and buy a pop rivet gun so i can pit it backon, then trim panel back on, job done.
Just like to say "Big thank you" to everybody that offered advice it made the job easier
