    Hi all.
    Thanks for all the help in the last couple of weeks, i went to look at a few before i went way over budget and brought myself a 2001 51 plate sport model. I am well pleased with it.

    I had a look through the manual for tyre pressures and it told me to go to the filler flap, which it did. However it worked in bars and not PSI.

    So my question is;
    What PSI should i be running on my 16inch rims.
    I did do a search but couldn't find anything!
    Thanks,

    Fozzie!

    Actually, to be pedantic: 14.7psi = 1 bar

    Most, if not all, service station air lines have both PSI and BAR units.

    You're looking to put in around 32 psi for normal driving and more for high speed motorways.

    Considering selling my VCDS KEY-USB interface. If you're interested please contact me via PM or email.

    Yebut . . . most service station air lines are woefully out of calibration, and give inaccurate readings. Furthermore, tyre pressures should be checked whe the tyres are cold.

    Every motorist should carry their own PCL type tyre pressure gauge, in their car or in their garage.

    Now that is not doing any favours, Sam. You really should not guess tyre pressures. If the sticker is missing, get the local VW dealer to order another one - about £2.

    Totally agree, but, not every motorist does.

    Very true, but I'm not guessing, that's the reading from the lid/door of my 2001 Passat saloon albeit in bar.

    EDIT: Just had a proper look at the filler flap

    Two people = 2,0 front and 1,9 rear
    Fully laden = 2,2 front and 2,8 rear

    This is for stock 15" wheels. People say and 2psi for every inch you increase from stock (in my case 15") so adding (or using) 16" wheels puts the pressures up to;

    Two people = 31/29
    Fully laden = 34/44

    Which seems excessive to me.

    I ran stock 15"s at 34/34 for three years with no abnormal effects/tyre patterns. YMMV /EDIT

    A quick search of the forums on www.passatworld.com using "tire pressure" (blasted Americans) gets you oodles of results and statistical findings

    Mine's 2.3 bar all round for normal load & 2.5/2.8 for loaded up. '97 1.8T saloon with 195X65X15" tyres.

    I guess that means they're all different then?

    Hey - I wonder if the 14.7psi thing has anything to do with the perfect fuel/air mix of 14.7:1 ?
