Hi, I am new to this site and would like some help please! Went out in my car at 6.30 am today ( very cold minus 6 degrees) drove approx 2 miles and when i braked at a junction the brake pedal was solid & no brakes ! I had braked earlier in this journey & all seemed ok. I drove on for approx 50 mtrs and tried them again - were ok. Drove on ( carefully!) for another 2 miles , same thing at next junction - then were ok again, end of journey was at 5.5 miles & same thing again when stopping to park, backed up - drove forward & braked again - all ok . Did journey home at lunchtime & all seemed ok

    Any ideas ?

It sounds like a servo problem to me. I take it when they went hard they still stopped you, but required more brake pedal force?

sounds like the problem ive seen on here before where water gets into the brake servo ad when it gets cold enough it'll freeze, hope it is something as simple as this and not a total failure of the master cylinder?

Having surfed round the forum, the more i read - the more it sounds like water in the servo - as about 3 weeks before christmas I had problems with warning lights for various things coming on all over the dash /wet footwells too - i spoke to my "car man" who said sounded like water in the area under battery - common fault he said - i had all that out & there was at least an inch of water in there as the the drain holes blocked with muck. cleaned all that out & had computer thingy reset at the garage . All ok until this with the brakes - its due service & MOT during this month - so will get it booked in asap & get all looked at . Many thanks to those who helpd me !

you may have to ask nicely to get them to take the battery out to cure water problem, not the simplest of jobs, i suggest a pair of false lashes and a low cut top, works for me

I suspect water in the plenum as it is a common fault.
