    Re: A4 2.5 Tdi . Timing Belt

It is a big job involving sliding back or removing the entire front end of the car and it requires a lot of specialist tools including a registered version of VAG-COM.
Dark was that day when Diesel conceived his grim engine that begot you, vile invention, more vicious, more criminal than the camera even, metallic monstrosity, bale and bane of our culture, chief woe of our Commonweal. How dare the Law prohibit hashish and heroin yet license your use, who inflate all weak inferior egos? Their addicts only do harm to their own lives: you poison the lungs of the innocent, your din dithers the peaceful, and on choked roads hundreds must daily die by chance-medley. Nimble technicians, surely you should hang your heads in shame. Your wit works mighty wonders, has landed men on the Moon, replaced brains by computers, and can smithy a "smart" bomb. It is a crying scandal that you cannot take the time or be bothered to build us, what sanity knows we need, an odorless and noiseless staid little electric brougham.

    Re: A4 2.5 Tdi . Timing Belt

This is a link to replacing the belt on a B5 (1.8T). Frankly if this doesn't scare you, then I don't know what will.

    http://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng35.shtml

Audi main dealer quoted me 550 for belt and tensioner pulley which seemed reasonable, however this didn't include water-pump which should be done at the same time.

I opted to use an independent garage, whose labour rates aren't too bad. Also replaced all auxilliary drive belts. They also renewed one of the roller bearings which was on it's way out. If one of these collapes - then it's tatties over the side as we say up north!

Only advice I can offer is go for a fixed price quote and use genuine VAG timing belt kit.
