    Morning Guys,

Last night whilst driving home from my folks house the car entered what I think may be the "Limp Home" mode. I say think, because if it was called "Get you home as slowly as possible mode" Then I would be sure it was
Switching off and starting again clears this and it drives fine afterwards, but give her a good seeing to and she will regularly enter this mode. So I did that just before getting home and then connected her up to VCDS whilst still in limp mode (No lights so wasn't sure if a code would still be there!)

Here's the auto scan I got:

    Chassis Type: 8EC
    Scan: 01 03 08 09 15 16 17 45 46 56 76

The rest of the scan came up with no faults, so only the pertinent parts are here!

Had a look on the Ross Tech Wiki and it talks of either the N75 boost controller or hoses. The three times I've had this happen I have been properly giving it some. General daily driving with overtaking doesn't activate limp home just continuous hard driving.

I noticed on another thread for a Golf Mk5 that the VNT turbo was also mentioned as a possible failure?

Will be taking it into Audi at lunch time hopefully, as it's still under their warranty, thankfully as it seems to spend more time in there than with me but hey ho!! Was just wondering what people thought could be the likely cause?

Cheers in advance for your help

    Hi,

Quick update, the car is booked in for Monday.

Does anyone know what the two Absolute Pres. values are in the Autoscan?
And also, what is the upper boost limit for a 2.0 TDi 140?

    Cheers

Its likely to be the turbo vaines sticking. This is caused by carbon build.

Put a can of injector cleaner in the tank then take it on a good thrashing on the motorway. You are driving it too slow and the turbocharger does not work hard enough. You could also put the vag-com to cicle the VNT mechanism On and OFF in Basic Settings, block 11...

    Hi Adamss24,

I think the "driving it too slow" option isn't really valid for me!! I drive it anything but slow, believe you me it gets a good thrashing every so often, and does quite a bit of A road overtaking on a daily basis so that ain't a likely option!!

Will have a look at the weekend and see how the vanes are moving before I take it to Audi on Monday.

I have exactly the same problem on my 2001 Bora TDi 115. Put foot down and no turbo whistle. Flick ignition off & on again then turbo is back. Been told its a sticky wastegate. Also, had code read (EML not on!) and it showed turbo over boosting. Tech said I need turbo recon @ £600. I'd rather leave it and flick the ignition off occasionally when it happens. I heard you can remove the turbo/manifold and soak it in brake cleaner or bicarb overnight but I'd rather ask one of the guys on here first to see if thats ok to do.

Who ever told you its a sticky wastegate doesn't know what there on about. Your turbo doesn't have a waste gate!

A good long motorway run every now and then blows out lots of soot and may stop it sticking

It first happened while giving it a good long run from Kent to York! It was a local VW specialist who told me it was a sticking waste-gate. Maybe he just wanted the work.

    Quick Update!!

The verdict is in from Audi, new EGR cooler and new Turbo required!!

So it's booked back in for later on this month.

Not sure what Audi did to ascertain that the Turbo and EGR cooler were needed, other than thrash my car for a day and a half

Will let you all know how it gets on once that's changed, and will wait with baited breath for the next thing to break.

    Hi Paul

Sorry to hear of your troubles. I have a Transporter T5 doing exactly as you describe, power loss, no warning lights. It just feels like the turbo stops spinning.

However since then, the problem has quickly (i.e. within days) got worse and now it feels like the turbo is pulsing.

I am awaiting support from Eshrules as to how to get the drivers for the VAG-COM cable he provided seen as I'm running a new laptop, but I expect to see an Overboost code like yours.

Would you mind letting us know how you go on?

    Cheers,
    Paul
