    I own an Audi A4, 1.9 tdi.

Anyone knows any tips about changing the oil and filter on this car?
I am sure this question was asked before so if anyone out there could even send me a link to the answer, would be very much appreciated.

I've changed oil before on cars but I was told that on Audi is a bit complicated.

    Thanks

i found the hardest thing on my '96 a4 tdi was taking off the drip tray underneath the engin bay.... make sure you mark the posision of it and keep all the plastic fastenings....
also make sure you have the correct oil, apparantly diesel engines are a bit fussy.....
keep hunting, there is plenty out there...

Go to a VAG dealer and get the correct oil for ur car, dont scrimp on ********* stuff, but the undertray is a fun job mind!!

Also, buy a new sump plug/washer from the VAG dealer, only 19p or so IIRC, oil filter will come with 2 rubber seals, replace the old ones with new ones, they are in there for a reason. MAy as well get th eoil filter from VAG too, they dont cost too much but if your there for the oil and sump plug/washer, kill 2 birds wi 1 stone n get the filter too...

Shouldnt take u no longer than 30 mins

it's for a passat, but aside from the location specifics of your car, it's pretty much all there

Below are some photos from a service i did on an A4 1.9TDI - This is a VERY basic how to guide.. but following the photos should help....

    Changing the oil filter.. -

Remove top plastic engine cover.. - and dip stick.

this is just a basic guide.. - so just follow the photos..

    Remove old filter

clean rubber seal and re-apply a bit of oil to ensure good bond..

    Install new oil filter..

---- there are a few clips to undo so you can remove the ally case... just look at it and its simple enough..

    POLLEN FILTER

Remove the 2 screws on top of the pollen filter box. and remove filter.

check inside to ensure no dirt etc..

    Install new filter.

    AIR FILTER

Undo screws on air box and remove air intake feed.

    Pull filter out..

CLEAN inside airbox before install NEW filter.

    OIL CHANGE .....

Undo sump plug.. -- (also you can purchase a spare sump plug and washer for around £1 from Audi if you wsh to change it)

That was a quick how to guide!

    Rick

    MESSAGE FROM

    The Man
Thanks Rick for those pics. about how to change the oil.
    Really helpfull. Apreciate it!

Looks like you know a lot about this stuff.

Do you happen to know how to reset the dials about "next service" (the one you press to see how long is left to the next service)?

    Thanks!

If you see the last photo.. the bolt on the sump... Undo this... let the oil drain out and refill...

In regards to the service light... Yes it can be done simlpy.. i will get the info and post back rather than re-typing it..

    Rick
