Morning, New to the forum - So Hi all

I have 1994 Mk3 Golf Cabriolet that squeals when the steering is on full lock, I have tracked it down to one of the drive belts, the smaller belt of the two is extremely loose so I would like to adjust this or replace it but my Haynes manual does not cover this topic for my cabriolet!
Does anyone know how to adjust or replace this belt? (I think it is called the "V" or "D" belt about 8 - 12mm wide that looks like it's powered from the Belt that is run from the Alternator ) Sorry for the lack of tech knowledge - I'm a bit of a beginner when it comes to engines!!!

Thanks In advance - I will post some pics later if requied

You can just follow the adjustment details for any similar year golf with power steering. It is not special for the cabriolet.

Could someone please tell me if the red circled part is the "adjustment bolt" that I need to turn clockwise to tighten the above mentioned problem. Or is this already at it's full adjustment?
    many thanks

I think it's a VR6 lump in the pic, on your engine there should be a scissor type adjustment right underneath the engine (directly beneath the belts), that you undo a bolt on the side that locks the linkage up and then screw the main adjustment bolt out until the slack's taken off the belt.

Thanks for the info and quick reply but this pic was taken from my car!!! I will have another play around tomorrow and see if moving random bolts will loosen/tighten the belt.

I didn't realise they had a serpentine belt on your model, in that case that will be the adjustment.

Sorry for late reply - only got round to changing the belt yesterday.

Yes the red circled bolt is the adjustment and I had to change the Power Steering belt as the adjustment was at its full travel(as shown in earlier picture)

A quick How to....(well how I did it)

Firstly removed the wheel (I found it easier to work on) and jacked up. And removed some of the plastics.

Then slackened of the 3 bolts that hold the power steering pump
(1 hinge bolt and 2 Slide bolts) as shown in the pics.

Slackened off the old belt and removed (it was allot bigger than the new one!!!) Gentle tapping with hammer on the power steering pump with the adjustment bolt removed was needed.

Put new belt on, adjusted and the re-tightened the 3 bots.

And no more squealing!!! Total cost = £3.19

I will add more pics underneath as it won't le me add any more to this reply.
