You mean G201, which is the ABS unit, nearly £1200 plus fitting.

I'm sure we are talking about the same thing, but the print out I have from my VW dealer id definitely 0201 Sender ABS Control Unit, but the cost is almost £1200!!

The actual VW part no is 1K0 614 517 H BEF, if this helps.

Thanks for the communication. I have written to VW expressing my disappointment that this unit has failed in a vehicle that is only three and a half years old! I'm waiting for their response.

Speaking to a local garage owner, he believes he knows a company that could possibly repair the original unit.

I will report more news as it comes in.

That part number is component G201, they have either made a typing mistake or are trying to misdirect you, I will leave it up to you to decide which that may be but either is unacceptable. There are a number of companies that can sometimes repair these units but not all are successful or long lived repairs.

    Thanks Crasher.

Is there any one company yu culd recommend for repair?

Could you tell me is this part specific to the Touran or is it in widespread use in other VW cars. Perhaps I could get one from a Golf write-off or something if VW refuse to play ball. Does this sound sensible?

Also as a result of this "failure" could you tell me which systems on the car are working and and which ones are not working?

The part is used on Golf 5, Golf Plus and Touran plus 04> Caddy but not on all versions, it has to be the correct one. There are at least 5 different units for the Golf 5 and 2 for the Touran. All that seems to be affected is the Electronic Stability Program if only the ESP light is on.

Thanks Crasher, you are a real star!!!

Sorry to labour the point but can I rest assured that the ABS is working ok?

The ESP is the only light that shows, everything else seems to be in order.

Any recommendation on a repair company?

It should only be the ESP that is non functioning, test the ABS on a clear wide straight piece of empty road by braking hard but be extremely careful as the ESP is not working and if you lose control it will not help you.

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for the additional info and Smokey for the kind offer of help. I think I have now found someone locally in BSE with VAG-COM and should be going to see them to tomorrow. So hopefully more info then.

Guys I now have more information.

If you are still tuned into this thread Crasher perhaps you can throw some more light on this.

Fault code read:-Fault 01435 (or 01453 not sure) but read as Brake pressure sensor 1 - electrtical fault in circuit - G201 ABS Control Unit.

I have also established many other Tourans and golfs have been having this same issue.

On a related site someone is trying to gather data to put numbers on it.
