    Hi all,

I have recently decided that I am going to buy a second hand s3 as i want something with a bit of oomph and am fed up of driving around underpowered little rot boxes. However, is there anything in particular I should check before buying other than all the usual stuff, service history tyres, cold start etc.

Any help would be much appreciated,
    Chino

    Hi Mate,

I havent found anything in particular with mine. First thoughts though I would say

Check Cambelt has been done around the 70K mark, along with water pump and tensioner

Check the Climate control works properly (just had to pay out 600 quid to replace the condenser and things....the intercoolers/bumpers/lights all have to come off)

The concert 1 stereo head unit has volume issues after a while where you can't control the volume properly....can be fixed for about 90 quid though.

All should be very solid, and feel 'tight',

thats all I can think of other than the usual (doesnt smoke, doesnt pull either direction when accel/braking, no significant rattles under the bonnet, should pull well under hard acceleration, HPI clear, good bodywork etc etc)

Best of luck mate, you will love an S3...they are brilliant....never fails to put a smile on my face!!!

One of the experts on here may offer further advice!

Make sure you do a proper vehicle check,i use the RAC one.I checked about 12 s3's before i bought mine.Only 3 came back completely clear.Millage descrepancy is the main thing. As Semky has allready said make sure the cambelt has been done at 70-80k,i did'nt and it cost me £700.They really are great cars if you buy wisely,so good luck hunting.

I just got mine, looked at loads before buying, I would recommend following up on the history though! finding the dealer that carried out the work and confirm it was actually done there and not just stamped! depending on your price range too, would visit a few garages. You pay more, but if there not going to fob you off, cause you get a min of 3 months warranty.

    Good luck.
